Characterization - 2

"There was no possibility of taking a walk that day. We had been wandering, indeed, in the leafless shrubbery an hour in the morning. . ." (6).

This quote is from the very beginning of the novel but shows a good sense of Jane's personality. This opening quotation describes Jane's loneliness and unhappiness with the Reed family. This gives the reader a good sense of her empty childhood and why she is anxious for the love and family she has always wanted.
